About University of Arkansas Little Rock

The University of Arkansas Little Rock was founded in 1927, as the Little Rock Junior College. In 1957, it became a private four-year university, until 1969, when it turned into a public educational institution again. The campus contains 40 buildings, including a library with a wide range of resources, spread on 150 acres. The university includes the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, the Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology, and the College of Science and Mathematics.

The Little Rock Zoo. It is considered to be a great escape from the city and a nice place to get in touch with nature. It is the largest planetarium in Arkansas, containing a 40-foot diameter dome that can project thousands of stars at once. Children can participate in the special programs conceived for them. It is best to schedule a visit by calling in advance, because the time of the shows varies.

Facts & Short history of Little Rock

Historical records say that in 1821, Little Rock became the capital of Arkansas Territory, and in 1831 it was recognized as a city. In 1860 the population of Little Rock was estimated at just only 3 700 inhabitants. Over the years, it grew into the thriving metropolis with over 180 000 people living within its boundaries. The name of the city comes from a small rock formation from the south area of Arkansas River. The name was given by the French explorer Jean-Baptiste Benard de la Harpe and remained the same today.


Little Rock has a humid subtropical climate that makes the city experience hot, wet summers and cold winters. The annual average temperature is 61.8°F. The best time to visit the city is during summer, when the weather is nice and warm, perfect for outdoor activities.
